It happens

on porches
around kitchen tables
in mosques
in temples
in churches
on swing sets
in classrooms
in community centers
in community groups
in virtual spaces
It happens
in cypher while critically listening to the unspoken nuances of rap lyrics and beatboxing
during protests while interpreting homemade signs painted with activists’ messages
at rallies when listening to the fanciful alliterations that decorate calls for justice
in local libraries when elders stop us to share books, poems, or unofficial true history
in the stillness of classrooms where hearts, minds, and spirits are all at once captivated
at auntie’s house as she schools you, feeds your soul, and mends your heart
